algis blog post final

These are the images i used in my DvD box and poster is because i was using images form the entire cast how ever i decided not to use my tweaked image as i was all ready planning to modify the background images for each of them.

The reason i choose this image is because i wanted the light in the image to be bright like a prison line up with them holding up there numbers or have the number stamped over the image.

When i edited this picture i wanted the idea of a broken person to come a cross in the image so i had the left half of the screen Lassoed so that i could affect the colour and alteration without affecting the other half of the screen. I decided to go against the rule of thirds because i wanted to have an symmetrical poster and DVD cover.I used Algis In the top right of my poster because he had the most pirecing stare which will be in the eyeline of the person viewing the poster. The photo was appropriate because it had the most realistic feel.
The finished product is very good but it could have been better because the overall design has come to the standard i would like it to the lighting is good and is spread evenly along the image and the resolution is quiet high meaning overall it was a good picture.

Dan Boulton

Dan Bolton was born in 1973 he uses a leica m6 a 50 mm f/2 for his work which consists of taking black and white images of every day life which on the south bank which is where the skate boarders other hipster style people go. This attracted him to the area where he began experimenting with different size films before settling on 50mm then he had to scrape enough money together to buy a leica camera as this was the one he had decided on.

Dans visual style is a cross between Henri Carter Bresson and Robert Mapplethoupe in the sense that it is in black and white and he focuses on the everyday and that some shots are set up but most aren't. One of his latest project is taking pictures of the south bank and the skate scene there.

This image is 2005-2011
This image is 17-53 of the south bank images. It is un clear what is going on the image but it appears that a shapeless figure is standing infron of the skater.

This image is number 14-57 it depics a skate board flipping in motion this shows how he has captured motion and that he has blurred the motion of the board.

This image is 52-53 it shows a man complete out of focus and his face is completely hidden I think this represents how the skater life style is shared identity with everyone else

My question to Dan Bolton is would you change anything about your style.

Blog post 4 Robert Mapplethorpe

Robert Mapplethorpe was born 1946. In 1963 he enrolled at Pratt institute in brooklyn where he began studying painting and sculpting. He uses a smilier technique to Henri Carter Bresson in the sence that he uses pure black and white images but where he differs is that Robert Mapplethorpe creates mostly staged photos using real life models.  For example this image of andy war hole is staged in front of a black background.
The image of Andy War-hole i quiet intriguing because he is a completely different type of artist in the sense that he use quiet traditional means to achieve his art such as painting and sketches. This picture was from 1986 before his death.

This image is of William Burroughs a writer and this image was taken at Mapplethorpes studio using williams desk from his study. The picture was taken in 1979 and used a white background which differs from many of the images taken in his studio which is what makes this image more unique.

The other image where taken from his flower collection which is very clever because people assume most of the beauty in a flower come from the colour but this image proves that the and the shape of the flower also helps to make up the beauty. The reflection of light off the flower is very good use of overhead lighting. The image was taken 1989 and the specs for all the images are 1000by800 pixles

Lawrence Final

For this image I decide to have lawrence with a blank face because all of the other characters have a blank face on there images and this would help the consistency.

I choose that image Because i need to have Lawrence with a normal face to keep the depth of field at a normal distance. i cropped the image to keep the side of the image even and so it would look like the picture was on the student id card.           My final impression of the image is good i like how the image makes the character appear as if he is submerged in darkness.

This image had a excellent angle which is why i chose it over the other images and it had a blank quality to it.

I changed the aspect ratio and the colour palette to give lawrence a cell shaded design i also cropped the edge of the image to allow for the frame to be more evenly distributed around the image.
